ALABAMA SHERIFFS ASSOCIATION: GUN CONTROL

Every Sheriff in Alabama takes the Oath of Office to support the Constitution of the United States (which includes the 2nd Amendment) and the Constitution of Alabama of 1901 (which includes Article I, Section 26).

The Sheriffs support the laws of the land, as they expect all of the citizens of Alabama to do.

GUN BILL THAT ALLOWS TEENAGERS TO RIDE AROUND WITH GUNS?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - MARCH 6, 2014

SENATE BILL 354

For my entire life, including more than 40 years in law enforcement, I have been a staunch advocate for gun rights and protecting the 2nd Amendment. Recently I learned that the Alabama Legislature is considering a bill that would allow all teenagers to carry handguns in their vehicles. I am joining other law enforcement officials and officers in opposing this bill because of the tremendous danger to law enforcement officers and to our community.

Imagine a police officer stopping a car full of teenagers at 2 a.m. and discovering that the car was full of handguns. If this proposed legislation passes – the officer would have no choice but to watch the car drive off. As a parent, this is a nightmare scenario and one that should never happen.

Please join me in opposing this bill by letting your representative know that you DO NOT want armed teenagers roaming our streets.

Sheriff Sam Cochran
Mobile County, AL
